About Kathleen Behun

Kathleen Behun is an award-winning indie film writer/director.  She recently completed her first feature, 21 DAYS; a supernatural horror thriller which she wrote, directed and produced.


In 21 DAYS, three filmmakers embark on a paranormal challenge by barricading themselves inside a house so haunted no one has been able to live there for more than 21 days, in order to film the supernatural phenomena which presumably occur.

A production of Tortilla Flats Productions, the movie stars Max Hambleton (Bitchin’ Camaro), Whitney Rose Pynn (Aquarius), Mickey River (Unfriended), Eduardo Roman (Jane the Virgin) and Anna Maganini (Red Line). Fernando Barreda Luna and Jessica Villegas Lattuada serve as co-producers.

To date, the film has garnered 13 awards on the Festival and Comic Con circuit, which include:

Best Feature Film at the 2016 Long Beach Comic Con (Geekfest); Best Feature Film and Best Of Fest at the 2016 Palm Springs Comic Con (Geekfest); Best Feature Film and Best Of Fest at the 2016 Dallas Comic Con (Geekfest); Best Supernatural Feature at the 2015 Philip K Dick Festival in NYC; Best Director and Best Actor at the 2015 Los Angeles Horror Competition; Best Feature Film and Best Actor at the 2014 Freak Show Horror Film Festival; Best Narrative Feature at the 2014 Los Angeles Film and Script Festival and Best Picture and Best Director at the 2014 RIP Horror Film Festival in Los Angeles. She is currently in negotiations with a major film distributor for North American distribution of the film.

Her most recent feature spec scripts: THE MAPLE HOUSE, a supernatural thriller, was selected as a Finalist at the Screamfest L.A. Film and Screenplay Competition and THE MENSCH, a romantic comedy, won Best Romantic Comedy Screenplay at the Broad Humor Film Festival; a competition devoted to female comedy writers and directors from around the world.

Her feature spec script, THE SEER, a supernatural thriller, was most recently under option with Irwin Winkler’s company, WINKLER FILMS (GOODFELLAS, RAGING BULL.) The script won the Grand Prize for Best Unproduced Screenplay at the  Worldfest-Houston Film Festival and was selected out of nearly 2,500 submissions.

In addition, Ms. Behun wrote and directed the short film, GOOD FRIDAY, which also took the top honor- The Grand Remi Award– for Best Director of a Short Film at the Worldfest-Houston Film Festival. Prior to this award, the film was selected as a Finalist for Best Director of a Short Film at the Indie Producer International Short Film Contest, Winner of the Audience Choice Award at the Fayetteville Film Fest, and was nominated for a Jury Award for Best Short Film at the Methodfest Film Festival.

Prior to GOOD FRIDAY, Ms. Behun wrote and directed the short film, ARRIVALS AND DEPARTURES, which premiered at the Palm Springs International Short Film Festival.  The film aired on a number of programs including, THE SHOWCASE CHANNEL; a Southern California cable program devoted to independent film and created by Academy Award winning producer, Gray Frederickson (THE GODFATHER and APOCALYPSE NOW.)

Ms. Behun also co-wrote the feature spec, NATURAL SELECTION, a Sci-Fi Thriller, which has won a number of screenwriting awards including: Grand Prize at the VIS.COM Screenplay Competition, Grand Finalist at the BDR Millennium Screenplay Competition and was a Semi-Finalist in the Chesterfield Writing Awards, sponsored by Paramount.

She has also co-written the feature spec, FLEUR DE LYS, a dark teenage love story. The script has received a number of accolades including: Finalist in the Screenplay Festival Competition, Honorable Mention in the Indie Producer International Screenplay Contest, and was a Semifinalist in the Screenwriting 2 Expo Competition. As a semifinalist, FLEUR DE LYS, was ranked as one of the top 20 scripts out of over 1,300 in competition.

Behun is a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, which has a rich history of fostering groundbreaking horror filmmakers including George Romero (“Night of the Living Dead”) and Gregory Nicotero (“The Walking Dead”).

Ms. Behun is currently at work on her next feature film, THE MAPLE HOUSE; a supernatural thriller.
